Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Barbara & Fred have owned the Port City Victorian Inn, Bed & Breakfast, LLC, here in Muskegon for 24 years now!
What is your primary product or service?
Our primary service is: Hospitality...Bed & Breakfast Inn; we serve the community at large and across the United States and World Wide.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Barbara was a school bus driver for over 15 years and Fred was a Director of Facilities and Engineering for 33 years. We came to Muskegon in 1991 because Fred worked at Muskegon Hts. Public Schools, and while cruising the area we found this home for sale. We contacted the realtor to make an appointment to see the house and after comparing it with another home that we were interested in, we both decided to purchase this house. Barbara right away new what she was going to do for the rest of her life, that is, make this home into the best Bed & Breakfast in Muskegon. And here we are 20 years later in this beautiful Victorian Bed & Breakfast Inn where people come from around the world to stay at our Inn to see the many attractions that Muskegon has to offer and to visit one of the largest bodies of fresh water "Lake Michigan" and it's beautiful beaches.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We have been blessed to be one of the only Victorian style home in this area that was turned into a Bed & Breakfast Inn and the only one here in Muskegon on the bluffs of Muskegon Lake. Our city has built a beautiful scenic, first class "bicycle trail" that is located just below our bluff that goes along Muskegon Lake where thousands of people come to see and use this gorgeous pathway.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have just this one site that keeps us both busy all the time. Fred is now retired and we have plans to hopefully put back on the turret on top of the Inn where it once stood overlooking the logging mills that surrounded Muskegon Lake in the 1870's.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are located coming off of Business 31 (Seaway Drive) to Laketon Avenue heading west about one mile, when you come to the cement medium in the road (that is where Laketon Ave. turns into Lakeshore Drive) take a hard right 90 degree turn on to (1259 Lakeshore Drive) heading north along Muskegon Lake, we are then about 5 blocks down on your right. We are the only Bed & Breakfast Inn on Lakeshore Drive in Muskegon.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, checks, VISA, and MasterCasd...and more cash!
